Position Summary:

Missions Inc. Programs is looking for applicants for a Shelter Coordinator at our Home Free Shelter for women, women-identifying individuals and their children, fleeing domestic abuse. Home Free is a 30-bed shelter that provides immediate safety, advocacy, support and information for women and children who have had to flee their homes due to domestic violence. Regularly operating at 100% capacity, the program has 24-hour staffing, provides three meals daily and operates a children’s program, including childcare.

The Home Free Shelter- Shelter Coordinator promotes the mission and models the values of  Home Free Shelter & Missions Inc Programs to provide a safe place for victim/survivors of domestic abuse and their children.

This position is responsible for ensuring that the shelter operates with the highest level of customer relationship standards, inclusive of appropriate information and referral practices, trauma-informed care, survivor-centered and culturally responsive practices.  This position maintains a high-level of accountability and decision making in providing quality programming, program development and employee oversight;  and is responsible for maintaining strong relationships with community referral partners.

This position requires a flexible work schedule which varies based on supervisory and program needs including evening, overnight, and weekend hours. This position may include on-call rotating schedule to assist with after-hours staff support, coaching and direct service coverage; including performing the duties of shelter advocate as needed- up to 50% of role.

Key Competencies
  • Oversight – Is able to provide operational direction and oversight for the shelter with the support of the Program Director. This operational oversight will include ordering supplies, safety, programmatic and health procedures.
  • Supervision – provides regular supervision and direction to on-call/relief staff, volunteers, and interns regarding completion of all documentation, programmatic expectations, training and orienting new employees with Community Outreach Coordinator.
  • Staff Support – Able to provide guidance and direction to program staff with respect to resolving programmatic and/ or client issues and crisis support.
  • Documentation – Is able maintain documentation and records of resident. Also, asses database input in HER system and provide training on use of database to shelter advocates/other team members.
  • Coordinate- Able to coordinate and schedule staff coverage as needed. Coordinate on and off-site activities for shelter clients.
Required Qualifications
  • 1-3 years of program coordination/mid- level program leadership.
  • 3-5 years human service experience. 
  • Knowledge of social services, welfare, mental health and criminal justice systems pertinent to the needs of survivors of domestic abuse.
  •  An understanding of and sensitivity to the unique problems encountered by individuals and children needing shelter and advocacy services.
  • Ability to respond to women and children in crisis with appropriate listening and intervention skills.
  • Ability to work well with people from diverse racial, cultural, social and economic backgrounds.
  • Non-sexist attitude and behavior.
  • Strong organizational skills.
  • Ability to work as a team member.
  • Computer proficiency required; including the ability to use e-mail, navigate the internet, and complete basic data entry in a database system.
Preferred Qualifications
  • Degree in Human Services or another related field .
  • Knowledge of Community Resources.
  • Bi-Lingual
Other Requirements
  • Ability to pass a criminal background check.
  • Valid Minnesota driver license and an insurable driving record approved by the Missions Inc. insurance carrier is required.
  • Must be able to lift and/or carry up to 25 pounds.
  • Must be able to bend, stoop, kneel and climb (ascend and descend) several flights of stairs.
  • Other lifting or physical requirements as added from time to time, or as required to perform the essential functions of this position.
Compensation

The hourly pay rate range is $20.00 to $21.50
