Position: Director of Nursing

Location: Plymouth, MN

Full-time: 40 hours per week, flexible schedule

Program: Judy Retterath Withdrawal Management Center

Judy Retterath Withdrawal Management Center (formerly Mission Care Detox Center), opened in 1978 as Minnesota’s first licensed detoxification program.  Forty years later, our facility continues to be a leader and innovator in Minnesota’s early recovery community, operating as one of the state’s first withdrawal management programs.  Currently under renovations, there has been no more exciting time to join our team as we restore our facility, rebuild our programming and pioneer best practices for this emerging field.

Position Summary: As a  member of a collaborative multi-disciplinary team,  the RN Nurse Supervisor will ensure quality medical care at Judy Retterath Withdrawal Management Center through the supervision of nursing staff (RN/LPN), client care monitoring, quality improvement activities and planning and evaluation of medical care program components.

Supervision: Reports directly to the Program Director.

Please note: anticipated start date will be between November and December of 2021, dependent upon Program’s reopening.

Position Responsibilities
  • Supervision of Registered and Licensed Practical Nurses including participation in hiring, evaluation, and disciplinary actions in accordance with the Missions Inc. personnel policies and management guidelines;
  • Establishing and implementing procedures for the provision of nursing care and delegated medical care, including: a health monitoring plan, a medication control plan, training and competency evaluations for staff performing delegated medical and nursing functions; handling serious illness, accident, or injury to patients; an infection control program; and a first aid kit.
  • Assigning, supervising, and evaluating the performance of nursing tasks.
  • Implementing condition-specific protocols.
  • Staff development including orientation and training of new employees and ongoing training for current employees responsive to clients’ medical needs and in compliance with state licensing training requirements for health care staff.
  • Ongoing development of policies, procedures and protocols to ensure quality medical care and compliance with licensing requirements.
  • Review and respond to incident reports and client grievances related to medical care in a timely manner.
  • Audit client charts for accuracy and completeness of documentation.
  • Provide advocacy for clients to ensure appropriate medical care in the facility and access to medical care in the community. 
  • Serve as primary contact with medical services consultants and contracted providers, including the Judy Retterath Withdrawal Management Center Medical Director, pharmacy and pharmacist  consultant. 
  • Review and provide input on Infection Control Program plan, policies and procedures changes or updates, as needed.
  • Develop and maintain nursing staff schedule to ensure 24-hour coverage consistent with client needs and licensing requirements
  • Assume responsibility for program oversight in the Program Director’s absence.
  •  Ensure program philosophy and services reflect the diversity of race, age, gender and social, cultural and economic backgrounds of its clients.
Required Experience and Qualifications
  • Active Minnesota RN or LPN license.
  • Minimum two years of experience in emergency medicine, mental health, crisis unit, and/or detoxification/withdrawal management unit. Prior supervisory experience preferred. 
  • Knowledge of addiction, co-occurring mental health disorders, and, the complications of withdrawal.
  • Be free of substance use problems for at least two years immediately preceding their hiring and must sign a statement attesting to that fact, and be free from substance use problems as a condition of continuing employment .
  • Computer proficiency required; including the ability to use e-mail, navigate the internet, and record medical data in an electronic health records system.
  • Prior experience with electronic health records a plus.
  • Ability to work well with people from diverse racial, cultural, social, and economic backgrounds.
Salary and Benefits

Salary range $37.00 – $41.00/hr. Salary commensurate with qualifications and experience. Benefits include health and dental insurance, 403b plan, short and long-term disability insurance, life insurance, ten paid holidays and PTO (paid time off).
