Position: Shelter Aide (temporary)
Location: Plymouth, MN
Varied: Shifts available on weekdays and weekends (hours anywhere in between 8 a.m. and 10 p.m.), approximately 20 hours per week, flexible based on candidate’s need and availability.

Position Summary
Missions Inc. Programs is seeking applications for Shelter Aides for the summer months, June through August (based on your availability) at its Home Free shelter for women, identifying individuals and their children, fleeing domestic abuse. Home Free is a 30-bed shelter, providing immediate safety, advocacy, support and information for women who have had to flee their homes due to domestic violence. Regularly operating at over 100% capacity, the program has 24-hour staffing, provides three meals daily, and operates a children’s program, including childcare.
Position Responsibilities
- Provide direct child care and carry out planned activities and recreational activities for the children.
- Provide a supportive listening environment in which children feel safe to express their feelings and needs.
- Assess children and mothers’ needs through completion of arrival interviews and interactions with children.
- Help to maintain a safe and orderly play space for the children.
- Implements an anti-racist, non-sexist program through attitude a
- Help maintain a safe, clean, and orderly shelter space for all residents through general cleaning, inventory support, and organization.
- Maintain records necessary to the children’s needs (children’s files, mother’s files, and daily logs).
- Reports to Child Protection Services, as mandated by law, upon consultation with the mother, and Program Director.
- Support with meal service for residents as needed.
- Maintains confidentiality of all residents and community women.
- Other duties as assigned.
Position Experience and Qualifications
- Must have previous experience working with children.
- Minimum 17 years of age.
- Must be able to work well with people from diverse racial, cultural, social and economic backgrounds.
- Demonstrate an understanding of and sensitivity to women and children experiencing domestic violence.
- Ability to take direction and follow through.
- Positive team player.
- Able to lift and carry up to 35 pounds.
Compensation
The hourly rate of pay is $15.00.
